CAS-ual Fridays Challenge #54 & RS #13

I combined two challenges today.  CAS-ual Friday's challenge this week was to make a CAS card for a man using patterned papers.  I picked up Pink Paislee's Prairie Hill this spring and it was the perfect choice for a masculine card.  The Retro Sketches challenge this week was a sketch based on a  card by Jackie Rockwell.  I tossed ideas around in my head for a few days when I decided it was a great chance to use my PTI Zipper die for this sketch. Putting it together I found it would work so much better if I gave the sketch a 90° turn to the right.  I used my new Papertrey Impression Plate on the card base.  I was really pleased with the end result of a Father's Day card for my hubby.

I can't believe I remembered to take a shot before gluing the zipper panel on.

Cardstock: Vintage Cream
Patterned paper: Prairie Hill 6" x 6" paper pad (Pink Paislee)
Stamps: World's Greatest (Papertrey Ink)
Ink: Dark Chocolate (Papertrey Ink), Tuxedo Black Memento (Tsukineko)
Impression Plate: Simple Stripes (Papertrey Ink)
Dies: Movers & Shakers Zipper, Up Up & Away, Chevron (Papertrey Ink)
other: foam dots

Where I live we have more cool weather than warm.  After sometimes harsh winters spring is such a happy time seeing the gardens come back to life.  I was out on Wednesday morning taking a few snapshots of my gardens doing just that.

colourQ challenge #138

I am finally able to post my card for this weeks colourQ challenge.  A lot of thought went into this card that I am sending to my sister-in-law today.  Five years ago yesterday, my brother died of terminal cancer.  He was only 50 years old, amazing husband, son, brother and father to four children.  I wanted to send my sister-in-law a card to let her know that she is not alone.  The colours this week were so easy to work with.

Dynamic Duos #3 & RS #12

Back in my studio after the holiday weekend, laundry isn't done but it will still be there tomorrow.  This week's Dynamic Duos challenge was Black Tie with a Dessert Option featuring black and yellow with an option of adding any kind of embossing.  I paired it up with RetroSketch #12. I started out by pulling out True Black and Harvest Gold Papertrey cardstock and some Doodlebug Beetle Black patterned and specialty papers.  I started off with a white card base and not sure what type of card I was going to make.  When it didn't seem to work I swapped the white base for black and a graduation card was born.

Victoria Day Weekend

What a gorgeous weekend.  I haven't gone to the cottage on the Victoria Day Weekend in quite a few years because it is absolutely the worst weekend for black flies in Ontario. We went up to clean the property fully anticipating the worst.  What we got was three beautiful summer days of 28C, sunshine and NO BUGS!  Talk about a fluke.  We mowed and raked and sat outside all weekend.  The black flies were apparently horrible last weekend, but now they are gone for the season.

Brooklyn on the right and on the left is Ben's girlfriend Courtney who was such a big help.

Saturday night Sam won every round of Uno.

On Monday we arrived home just in time to get Brooklyn to her first soccer game of the season and her first goal of the season too.

colourQ challenge #137 - Card 2

This is my second post for today and my second card for this weeks colourQ challenge.  I am so in love with these colours I could keep making cards all weekend, but we leave in an hour for the cottage and to greet the black flies.  Time for a spring cleanup, grass to be moved, raking to be done and brush to be collected.  This weekend gets better each year with now two teenagers that have much more energy than Dad and I.  Here is my second card.

colourQ challenge #137 - Card 1

Happy Friday everyone.  Today is the kick off to the Victoria Day weekend in Canada. This is a holiday that falls on the last Monday before May25th each year and signifies the celebration of Queen Victoria's birthday.  It is also commonly know as the May 2-4 weekend, or kickoff to summer.  The 2-4 is symbolic of the case(s) of beer consumed on this weekend. The palette for this week's colourQ is just gorgeous.  I picked PTI colours Simply Chartreuse, Hawaiian Shores, Winter Wisteria and Smoky Shadow for my colour template.
